A friend within our comunity Eleanor, is running the London marathon in 2025 as the first person with LAM to run a marathon supporting LAM.

LAM, or Lymphangioleiomyomatosis, is rare lung disease that only occurs in women. It causes cysts and other growths to form in the lungs, kidneys and lymphatic system and, ultimately, results in cystic lung destruction (causing death). LAM affects just over one woman in a million… and I found my one in a million.

Eleanor herself has lost a kidney and lives with massively reduced lung function making it all the more impressive that she will be running 42kms. New trial meds have, seemingly, stunted the development of Eleanor’s LAM but others aren’t so lucky.

LAM Action, the charity she is running on behalf of, is a self-help group providing support for patients with LAM while raising money for vital research – it is often difficult to obtain money for research into a rare disease so this charity is vital to the women that suffer with LAM.
